The Malachite Kingfisher

The Malachite Kingfisher

Economy in size, swift in speed,
exceptional beauty in every limb and feather,
perched on a dried twig surveying the water below,
see a prey and watch your feathers glow,
As you make your dive bright metallic colours reflecting off sunny weather ,
without fail you reappear with your feed.

The Cape Sugarbird

I am a bird...

I am...
I hatch, I grow, I learn, I eat, I see, together with the other chicks in my batch,
I fly, I scavenge, I hunt, I feed, I swim, to and from climes both wet and dry,
I fight, I hurt, I protect, I love, I hate, all in the course for what I think is right,
I age, I shiver, I break, I sicken, I die, playing my part on nature's stage,
I am, I am but a bird
